Research Interest:

Synthesis, properties, and applications of carbon nanotubes

Research Achievement:

Dr. Chang Liu has been mainly working on the preparation, property, and applications of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). He developed a hydrogen arc discharge method for the large-scale synthesis of high quality single-walled CNTs and their aligned ropes; proposed to selectively grow semiconducting single-walled CNTs by using an oxygen-assisted floating catalyst CVD method; established an in situ TEM approach for revealing the growth process and mechanism of CNTs, and proposed a vapor-solid-vapor growth mechanism for non-metal catalyst; first designed and prepared a CNT-clamped metal atomic chain and demonstrated its quantized electrical conductivity; developed high-performance CNT-containing electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers in Proc National Acad Sci USA, Nano Letters, J Am Chem Soc, Adv Mater, ACS Nano, etc., which have been cited for more than 4000 times. He gave 9 invited talks in international conferences.
