Research Interest:

Corrosion mechanism of magnesium alloys

Protective coatings for magnesium alloys

Surface treatment of metal materials (electroless plating, electroplating, anodizing, etc. )

Evaluation of corrosion resistance

Biodegradable coatings for medical applications

Research Achievement:

*Corrosion mechanism of Mg alloys

Corrosion morphologies of Mg-2Zn, Mg-8Li and Mg-RE Mg alloys

The size, distribution and chemical composition of precipitation phases have a great effect on the corrosion status. Precipitation phases play a key role in the corrosion mechanism of Mg alloys.

*In situ sealing pore micro-arc oxidation film on Mg alloys

The in situ sealing pores micro oxidation film (MAO) is developed based on the different solidifying points of the film composition. This film can resist 2000 h salt spray test, which is dramatically superior to the traditional MAO film.

*In situ growth of hydrotalcite film on Mg alloys

Hydrotalcite materials possess special layer structure. A compact and corrosion-resistant Mg-Al hydrotalcite film is in situ grown on AZ31Mg alloy in the carbonic acid solution. This process is simple, environmentally friendly and excellent corrosion resistance.

*Electroless plating nickel coating on Mg alloys

The adhesion of the electroless Ni-P coating on Mg alloys is poor. This problem is solved by controlling the microstructure of the pretreatment film to obtain the “pinning effect”. This technique has been applied to industries in bulk.

*Biodegradable composite coatings on Mg alloys

The morphology and chemical composition of AZ31immersed in SBF for 2 h

Composite coating for the medical biodegradable Mg alloys

Hydroxyapatite particles can be spontaneously formed on the surface of Mg alloys in SBF (simulated body fluids), indicating the excellent bioactivity of Mg alloys. The novel nicotinic acid/calcium phosphate composite coating is developed, which can effectively reduce the biodegradation rate of Mg alloy implants in SBF.
